Aug 7, 7 pm - The War - Wright Museum of World War II - Wolfeboro

New Hampshire-based filmmaker Ken Burns has made some of America's best-loved and most-watched historical documentaries, which have educated and delighted millions of viewers for over 30 years.

The Wright Museum of WWII History is delighted to host this special evening with a filmmaker that many call "America's Storyteller." Burns will discuss the inspiration of his most recent documentary, The War, and describe the massive undertaking entailed in guiding this important project from idea to reality. Following a brief formal talk, Burns will open the floor to audience questions.

The War is a seven-part film that tells the story of the Second World War through the personal accounts of 40 men and women from four quintessentially American towns. The series explores the most intimate human dimensions of the greatest cataclysm in history - a worldwide catastrophe that touched the lives of every family on every street in every town in America.

Buddy Holly Story

Aug 12-17  LEND ME A TENOR - The Summer Theatre - Meredith

The story is set in 1934.  The Cleveland Grand Opera is celebrating its biggest night in history.  World famous tenor Tito Merelli, known to his fans as "II Stupendo", is scheduled to sing the lead in "Otello" to raise $50,000 for the company. Chaos sets in when a "Dear John" letter is mistaken for a suicide note, and Tito's appearance on stage seems unlikely.  However, for Henry Saunders, general manager of the Cleveland Opera, " the show must go on!" under any circumstances - even if it means a replacement on stage.

A sensation on Broadway and in London's West End, Ken Ludwig's hysterical farce is guaranteed to leave you teary eyed with laughter.
